Academic Centers and ProjectsAs the practice arms of its academic departments, SIT's academic centers extend the school's reach and expand its capacity to educate and empower interculturally effective leaders, professionals and citizens. Through the centers' research, consultation, training projects, fellowships and short-term programs, SIT fosters a worldwide network of individuals and organizations committed to responsible global citizenship. SIT Center for Teacher Education, Training, and ResearchThe mission of the SIT Center for Teacher Education, Training and Research is to increase educational opportunities, improve learning and deepen the knowledge and understanding of learning, teaching and teacher education. Promoting research and practice, the Center provides consultation, technical support, training and sponsored research to client institutions. The Center's work with schools and organizations around the world provides significant employment resources for SIT Master of Arts in Teaching graduates. Recent center initiatives include a three-year project to research the teaching of Spanish to learning-disabled adults; a partnership with Brazil's oldest binational cultural center to bring learner-centered language teaching methods to more than 13,000 students; a Massachusetts statewide effort to set adult ESOL standards through the establishment of a curriculum framework; and a project to train teachers in Rwanda to teach English to members of the Rwandan parliament. For more information, please visit SIT's Center for Teacher Education, Training, and Research web pages. SIT Center for Social Policy and Institutional DevelopmentThis center, affiliated with the Programs in Intercultural Service, Leadership and Management, CONTACT and the Global Partnership, extends SIT's resources to practitioners, youth and others. Below are examples of courses open to non-SIT students and some of the special projects that we have developed. Foundations or other donor agencies typically fund the latter. For more information, please visit SIT's Center for Social Policy and Institutional Development web pages. |
