Wheelchair Facilities for Anglers with Disabilities - Coarse Fishing
Venues

The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board has developed a number of custom
built ‘wheelchair friendly’ venues around the region, often in
collaboration with local development groups and local authorities.
Many of these developments were made possible from funding provided by
TAM (Tourism Angling Measure) in the late 1990’s. Custom built
facilities conform with the construction guidelines and standards set
out by a number of recognised bodies and are geared with angler safety
in mind. Other venues tend to be located along piers, jetties,
concrete ribbons or timber stands where access and parking is very
easy. The latter may lack safety features such as barriers or raised
sides but are otherwise suitable and are therefore listed in this
guide. For instance the Grand and Royal Canals has public access roads
running along most of the canal banks where fishing is possible. Lough
Derg and other larger lakes can be fished from harbour walls and
piers. Slevin’s Lake in Mullingar, and more recently the state of the
art Donamon development in the River Suck Valley, Co Roscommon are
among some of our fisheries which offer custom built facilities for
disabled anglers.
