An American Celebration

A Limited Edition 10-CD Set Digitally Remastered
Price: $ 185.00

"These are exciting musical documents, performed live in concert, that pay tribute not only to the composers and their work but to the virtuoso musicians of this remarkable Orchestra."
--Kurt Masur, Music Director

"I have no doubt that American music aficionados will revel in these vital performances, and those unacquainted with the wide range of American music in the 20th century will be surprised at the richness and beauty that has escaped them thus far."
--Sedgwick Clark (Producer), Editor of Musical America

"It is fitting that the orchestra that has been in continuous operation for two-thirds of our nation's existence should now document and enjoy its enduring kinship to American music. In presenting New York Philharmonic: An American Celebration, we continue to expand the range of possibilities for the next millennium, to commemorate the past, and imagine the future."
--Deborah Borda, Executive Director
10-CD Set with 2 Companion Booklets
The new 10-CD collection encompasses the dramatic range of more than a century of American music -- from Chadwick's romantic Melpomene Overture, first performed by the Philharmonic in 1896 and preserved in this set in a performance led by Leonard Bernstein in 1958, to the world-premiere performance of Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite, led by Artur Rodzinski in 1945, to Zwilich's Symphony No. 3, commissioned for the Philharmonic's 150th anniversary in 1992, to a new arrangement by Wynton Marsalis of Duke Ellington's A Tone Parallel to Harlem in 1999.
