Bahara Rocks
Located off the southwest corner of Tioman Island, this is a site with a reputation for prolific marine life and is unique in the area since it is the only site on Tioman where black corals can be found in abundance. You will also notice this site features lots of barrel sponges, purple and pink dendronepthya and beautiful blue gorgonian sea fans on this mini drop-off. The fans provide a static colourful background to the movement and variety of the pelagics and reef species that you will see here.
The numerous species that can often be found in and around the Bahara Rocks area make it one of the most loved Pulau Tioman diving sites. Wide-angle photographers often return here again and again to capture impressive large-scale shots. With fans in the foreground and the chance of sharks surrounded by reef species all in clear sunlit waters it is easy to imagine the kind of pictures one can capture here.
All the various colourful corals grow on two vaulting rocks which rise from the island plateau. The site also features a mini-drop off (mini meaning from about 15 to 24 m) where you can come across any manner of larger species such as black tip sharks and nurse sharks.
Within the abundance of coral life, circulates an equal abundance of reef fish to keep you entertained including the likes of parrotfish, angelfish, humpheaded wrasse and butterflyfish. So Pulau Tioman something for everyone from the photographer to the pelagic lover to the diver who just want to see the colour of a vibrant reef scene and as such is suitable for divers from Open Water level.
