Renggis Island
Renggis Island is one of Pulau Tioman's top dive spots, always full of surprises, you'll never tire of diving at this underwater marine garden. Be forewarned, it can get rather full of diving traffic here - on the weekends, it has been known to play host to as many as 30-40 divers from various dive operations, so it is always good to get here early.
This is an ideal dive site for training dives and night dives. Normally you will roll in on the eastern side of the island and drop down into an amazing concentration of marine life - schools of jacks, tunas, pompanos and mackerels circulate around you as you circumnavigate this submerged reef. There is quite a variety of hard corals surrounding Renggis Island including table coral, staghorn, brain coral and for Irish divers: potato and cabbage corals.
On the western side of the reef, you'll find a large number of gorgonian sea fans. Within the hard and soft corals, turtles nose around while yellowtails, giant groupers, cuttlefish , turtles, moray eels and black tip sharks pass by. A long term resident to watch out for is Boris the giant barracuda! If it tickles your fancy you could venture a little away from this site to where there are a couple of Thai fishing wrecks at around 20m which may be worth examining, particularly on a night dive.
