Imandi

Imandi: Buses leave from Kotamobagu every morning before 9 am. Rp500. for this town in Dumoga District, passing through 47 km (takes 5 hours) of splendid river and mountain country. Imandi is a small quiet village, an ideal place to just relax. stay: Peng. Ingat Budi has a rocking chair, is quiet and has a garden; Rp400 for a bed and Rp250 per rather unimaginative meal. Peng. Sweetheart, right in the village itself, charges Rp500, or Rp1500 full board; better food. vicinity of Imandi: Walk out or take a bendi 7 km to Desa Bali Agung (pop. 500), the Balinese transmigrasi colony 1500 km away from Bali where you'll find heart-shaped Balinese faces, one pura (temple), a game/an orchestra, Balinese bubur rice cakes, Legong dances on the occasion of the big Balinese festival, Ga/ungan. Crafts are also made here. There are irrigation systems just like on Bali a further 7 km in Duluduo where you can stay in Losmen Dabar Menanti and pay for food but not for sleep. It's a 3 km walk from Duluduo to Lake Meat; a lovely view. Another smaller Balinese kampung, Desa Merta, is only 3 km from Imandi.

SANGIR ISLANDS
90% Christian. Sangir durians have an exceptional flavor. A very fine fabric is woven here, the socalled koffo-cloth, but not pliant enough to be worn as clothing; it's used only in ceremonies. getting there: Take Merpati or Bouraq, but it's cheaper at Rp3500-4000 by small cargo boat from Bitung. The K.M. Wirabuana and the faster, better express K.M. Marina sail from Manado's harbor to the Sangir Islands: Tahulandang (in Burias, stay at the losmen on the harbor), then on to Siau, Tahuna and Talaut; round trip costs Rp16,800, takes 2 days and 2 nights or more. Siau: Has nutmeg plantations and a hair-raising volcano. The ground shakes often. The peak of G. Awu, over 1785 m (5853 ft.) high, looks like a wellturned jug from the sea. The crater, about a 6 hour climb from Ulu, is a sheer terrifying drop over a rim of jagged rocks. There are actually two craters, one smoking and the other surrounded by pink cliffs 45 m high. Stay in Losmen Serui in Siau, Rp500. Tahuna: Miniature canoes are made in Tahuna, also embroidered blouses, bedclothes, and woven sarungs. Black woodcarvings and small tables are made out of kayu besi. In Tahuna city, stay at the pasangrahan. Victory Losmen or Omega Losmen charge Rp1500 per person including food. Visit the fine beaches of Manganitu near Tahuna. Talaut: A northern very flat island, almost to the philiphines. praised for its black woodcarvivgs.

in Bali we must point out a very important distinction which the Balinese make between two clearly separate groups of ancestors. The first of these groups consists of the dead who are riot yet completely purified. This group is in turn subdivided in pirata, those riot yet cremated, and pitara, those already cremated. The former are still completely impure; the latter have been purified, but are still considered as distinct, individual souls. The second group consists of the completely purified ancestors who are considered as divine.
No contact is sought with the pirata, the dead who have not yet been cremated. Oil the contrary they are dangerous, Offerings must however be made for the redemption of their souls.
