We have discussed here the various Debt Consolidation Laws practiced in Vermont. We have also given a list of names of the reliable debt consolidation companies operating in the state.

• In Fair Debt Collection Act (FDCA) the collection agency cannot call you at home before 8:00 a.m., or after 9:00 p.m., and may not call you at work if they know your employer bans such calls. Any obscene, profane, or abusive phone calls are prohibited. While there are a number of protections for consumers in the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, there is still one important point - you are responsible for your debts. No use any language or symbol on any envelope or in the contents of any communication effected by the mails or telegram that indicates that the debt collector is in the debt collection business or that the communication relates to the collection of a debt.Not communication by post card.
• The Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) ensures that all consumers are given an equal chance to obtain credit. This doesn’t mean all consumers who apply for credit get it: Factors such as income, expenses, debt, and credit history are considerations for creditworthiness.
• In Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA)the law applies to "open end" credit accounts, such as credit cards, and revolving charge accounts - such as department store accounts. It does not cover installment contracts - loans or extensions of credit you repay on a fixed schedule. Consumers often buy cars, furniture and major appliances on an installment basis, and repay personal loans in installments as well.
• Few laws have as significant an impact on American consumers as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Amendments to the Act, effective September 30, 1997 benefit consumers by strengthening privacy provisions and defining more clearly the responsibilities and liabilities of businesses that provide information to and access data from credit reporting agencies.
