Who are Asbestos Professionals?
After all the talk about the hazards of asbestos exposure, and the need for professionals, these professionals seem to somehow acquire mystical status in our mind's eye. Who are asbestos professional? They are just like you and me, with one vital difference. They have been trained to detect and handle asbestos damage, and save lives as much as they can. You and me are not trained for such situations.
There can be different kinds of asbestos professionals, depending on the kind of product we are talking about. Basically, whatever the type of asbestos professional, they are all trained to achieve the same goal - keep the risk of asbestos exposure to a minimum, and handle repair of damaged asbestos effectively.
Some asbestos professionals can be trained to handle damage in the case of specific asbestos products. These are the specialists, and are trained in particular types of asbestos repair. For example, if a person is trained to handle asbestos damages in furnaces, it would not be a wise idea to get him to handle asbestos repair work on your roof, would it?
What Asbestos Professionals Do
Basically, as mentioned above, asbestos professionals deal with situations involving sampling and analysis of products to determine asbestos presence in them, as well as conduct repair work on damaged products that have asbestos. There are some asbestos professionals who have their own set-up. You can take the product to them if you wish to analyze them for presence of asbestos. However, if repair work is involved, it is always a better idea to get the asbestos to carry out an inspection at home.
You have just bought a product, say a hair dryer. There is no label on the product that says that indicates the presence of asbestos in the product. However, you have done your reading up on products that can contain asbestos, and are wondering whether this hairdryer that you have bought has any asbestos in it. You decide to get it analyzed. More so because it is something that you will be using daily, and would not want to take a chance on being needlessly exposed to asbestos.
You decide to take it to an asbestos professional. Now that is a wise move indeed. You are better off knowing that the hairdryer has no asbestos, hearing it straight from the horse's mouth, instead of using it everyday, wondering whether it does contain any asbestos, and if it does, how safe you are using it.
Take another example. Say you have asbestos on the tiles of your floor. You know this for a fact. Now you find out that a piece of the tile has broken. What should your immediate move be? Get hold of an asbestos professional, get the damage assessed, and also the repair work done. You might spend a bit of money, but at least it will be towards ensuring that your family is safe.
Learning the Art - Where do Asbestos Professionals do It?
Nowadays in America, there are courses for asbestos professionals. These courses are sponsored by the federal government. There are certified courses available. You will obviously feel safer putting the safety of your family in the hands of a professional who has a certificate to show that they are qualified, than in the hands of a quack.
