When starting a home based business opportunity many people don't do enough research. Research is the key to making your business a success. You should know every aspect of the business you are about to start, such as:

Who else has done well in this field?

Is this opportunity all it's cracked up to be? What are the risks?

How much money can I realistically make?

Is there a need for this service or product in my area? (i.e. Selling air conditioners in Alaska probably isn't a great idea.)

Do I have enough room in my home to have this business?

Where will I store my product? What kind of storage do I need? (If your selling make-up a hot storage room probably isn't the right place. Lipstick melts.)

Will I need to worry about zoning?

What permits are needed?

Will I need a business licence?

How much money will I need to start the business?

Will I need a loan?

Can I do a majority of work over the internet, like a internet store and email advertisements?

How long will it take to get my home office ready for business?

Many people don't take into consideration the family members when they start a home based business. The business will be in the home, after all, so family will become an issue that will have to be faced. Ask yourself the following questions:

Will my business papers, books, records, advertising, office supplies, etcetera, interrupt other family member's work space?

Is my work area easily accessible to small children, giving them ample opportunity to rip important documents and records or break any merchandise that I may sale through the business?

What will I do with the kids while I'm working? Is day care an option or can I work around their naps?

If I decide to work while the children are awake or in the house how can I get work done and keep them occupied at the same time?

Will my spouse be a part of the business, such as a silent partner or a more hands on partner?

Will my spouse have to take over more responsibilities around the house?

Can my kids help with any of the errands, such as taking letters to the mail box or filing papers?

The biggest mistake a new business owner can make is thinking that you will get rich in just a month's time. No business does great right away. Many businesses don't even make any money in the first year. There is no reason to think that you will make thousands in the first few months, let alone millions no matter what a site on the internet says.

There is no such thing a a get rich quick business. Keep your feet on the ground and work hard, remembering the whole time that it is your hard work that will make your business a success.
