OPTIONS
ON EXPLORING AND DISCOVERING BOTSWANA
There
are many ways to explore Botswana and while the country
is accessible by road, many of the top wildlife areas
can only be reached by air charter, so the best option
is to take the daily scheduled flight from Johannsburg
to Maun - the outback capital on the fringes of the Okavango
Delta.
From there, your charter flight sweeps across the labyrinth
of waterways before touching down at your camp. These
lodges, usually catering to between 12 and 20 guests,
are situated in their own private concession areas, so
the wildlife experience is quite unlike many safari destinations
where visitors frequently encounter other vehicles on
game drives. This is exclusive Africa travel at its best!
Beside fly in safaris, travelers can also do the Okavango
and Chobe overland in small groups on luxury or participatory
camping safaris. Then there is the option of a horse-back
or exclusive elephant back safari, while Stanley's Camp
now also offers hot air balloning. In the wide expanses
of the Makgadikgadi, adventurers can explore the salt
flats on quad bikes before savoring the silence and sanctity
of an ancient rock outcrop.
