It is a good thing that you are concerned about your credit and the effects a credit card can have on it. One of the major ways to build and maintain credit is through the use of a credit card. You are right a person can screw up their credit with a credit card. But a person can also build a good credit score with a credit card. If you find a credit card with a good interest rate and make all of your payments on time.

If you have a habit of over spending on occasion you better get that urge under control when you get a credit card because that can be trouble too! But if you make every single payment on time and manage your pending you will be find. Remember that once you establish good credit with your credit card you can get auto loans and one day even a house! So do the right thing!

What If I Make a Few Late Payments on My Credit Card Will it Hurt That Much?

If you make even one late payment on your credit card you have damaged your credit. The credit card company reports your payment history to one of the credit bureaus every single month. So that means every single payment you make on your credit card is on your credit report. This is considered a negative and can lower your credit score. It's not much to dig yourself out of a hole and that is what your are doing if your credit score is low.

So stay above ground and keep your payments on time -- all of them. It's no fun to be in debt and its a drag to get yourself out of it so be a wise consumer and don't dig your self into that hole called debt -- it's lonely down there.

What If I Go Overboard with My New Credit Card and Can't Make My Payments, Will the Credit Card People Make an Arrangement with Me?

Don't go overboard with your new credit card. You will ruin your credit. The credit card people will eventually make arrangements for payment. When a company that you hired to fix your credit calls them to ask for arrangements. At this point its a pretty sure thing your credit is in serious trouble and the credit people probably don't like you very much either. This means that if you get a credit card make your payments.

If you don't feel you can manage this or your finances and control your spending don't get a credit card. Think about your future you will want a car and house one day and if the credit card people are mad at you your chances on getting any of these will be pretty slim.
