Ecommerce Web Site Design no-No's

Ecommerce Web Site Design Should Attract
An ecommerce web site should be designed to show professionalism. Many ecommerce web site owners don't seem to know what qualifies as professionalism, and just plain annoying.
Don't make the same mistake. Read this article to find out sins that no ecommerce web site designer should commit.
Ecommerce Web Site Design Instant Turn Offs
No site should have more than two text colors: bold and black. There is nothing more annoying than going to a site that has ten different types of colored text.
Site navigation should be easy. If you think a new type of navigation is cute or interesting, think again. Your first thoughts should always be on customer convenience. Customers don't care if your menu has neon colors if they can't find their way to the product they want.
Nothing can turn off a prospective customer faster than something flashing or garish colors. You should use no more than two or three colors on your site, and they should all go with the colors in your logo. Never use an all black screen. All black screens should be reserved for rock star chat rooms. Your site should have comforting colors. You want your customer to be relaxed, not wired.
While we're talking about colors, let's talk about annoying back grounds. No background should be anything other than a solid color. That means no clouds, no cartoon characters, no checks, and no hearts. Absolutely no patterns! Patterns make a site harder to read.
More Design Annoyances from a Ecommerce Web Site
We're not done yet! There are quite a few more things that you can do to your site that can leave your customer irritated. Remember, an irritated customer is not a repeat customer.
If your site does not have a "contact me" page add one right away. Nothing is more frustrating than having a question and no one to ask for answers. Your contact page should have your address and phone number as well as a link that opens a blank email message with your email address already in the "to" line. Remember, make everything as simple as you can for a customer.
Many web site designers think that people like a ton of information on a page. Not so! Make sure your customers can see most of your information right on the screen when they get to that page. They shouldn't have to scroll more than a couple clicks at the most. Scrolling is boring and makes it hard for a customer to find the information they are looking for.
If you offer links on your site make sure that they have something to do with your site. A site that sells kids toys would seem strange, if not a bit creepy, if they has a link to a liquor site. Also, don't just stick a link on your site because you feel like it. Only put a link on your site if it is paid for or you exchanged links with another site.
