Are You Ready to Pay for a Small Business Opportunity?

A small business opportunity can be found almost anywhere. They are in magazines, newspapers on the Internet and even on television. Many people find them in their mail boxes along with coupons and free samples. A small business opportunity can be found lurking at every corner these days. Technology has only made them more plentiful. Unfortunately, technology hasn't necessarily made them more viable and you need to be careful about what you are willing to pay for.

Sometimes a company will try to sell you information to get your home business opportunity off the ground. Others will try to sell you advice. Still others offer products and services along with permission to use the company name, good will and reputation to promote the sale of those goods. You are the only person who can really determine the value of the opportunities you seek - but you might need a little bit of help deciding what's really right for you.

Your Small Business Opportunity Might be Legit - Then Again, it Might Not

One popular method people are using today in the form of a "small business opportunity" is the price of a membership fee to join a particular group or organization that promises to send clients your way in droves. Some of these organizations are legitimate, offering you helpful tips, information, advice and professional assistance. You need to ask yourself how much of what you are about to pay for is available to you for free?

If you determine the asking price is worth the convenience of having information, strategies and other services offered to you, there are a few more questions you need to ask.

Know How to Research a Small Business Opportunity That Doesn't Smell Quite Right

Find out how long the business making the small business opportunity available has been in business. Businesses come and they go - especially on the Web - and it's important that you hook up with a well established business with a history and references.

Ask for contact information of other members who have participated in the group. If the company is unwilling to allow you to converse with other members then move on.

Figure out how much you can realistically expect to make from the small business opportunity in the first month. You should be able to recover the cost in a short amount of time, three to four months, from the time you join or sign on.

Find out how many others belong to the organization that wants your money. If there aren't very many, then others might have opted out because the value wasn't commensurate with the cost. Too many could indicate there's a lot of competition and you could get lost in the shuffle.

Find out exactly when and how you will be paid. Will the organization that proposes to send you business be taking a commission or any other fees from your proceeds?

What if you are not successful or don't receive the business you were promised? Is there away for you to recoup at least some of your costs?

Does the membership fee you are about to shell out allow you access to all member materials? Or are there different levels of membership and will you be asked to up your level of membership shortly after paying the initial fee?

You can no doubt think of many other pertinent questions to ask regarding a 'small business opportunity' that comes through paid membership in such an organization. The important thing is that you do ask and that you find satisfactory questions to your answers before you take on any small business opportunity that requires an out-of-pocket cost for a product or service with which you are unfamiliar. Before you buy into a small business opportunity, do your research to find out if the same service exists for free!
