Meshing a Home Business Opportunity and Your Life
Home business opportunity "experts" can consistently be caught saying its vital to establish work hours and stick by them when operating a business from your home. While this "conventional wisdom" makes sense, its feasibility is questionable. The need to keep your home business opportunity sperate from your home life can sometimes clash, leaving the idea of 9 to 5 being set aside for work impossible.
In Order for Your Home Business Opportunity to be Successful, You Have to Bend the Rules
In reality, having a home office means you are available to do some personal and household stuff during "normal" business hours. This does not run down hill from your spouse either. Rather, isn't the point of having a home business to allow you flexible hours? If you didn't want to be home doing "home" things, then you would most likely be at an office working. In fact, the sheer beauty of working from home is being able to take time out for story time with your kids at the library or to hit the gym at your convenience.
The real problem is that "honey do's" can turn into time eaters, taking up so much of your day that you are left little time for work. So the real question is not how to keep work separate for your home life, but rather how to get work done and still have your life.
How to Manage Your Home Business Opportunity and Home Life
First things first, but down on personal chores. Do any and everything you can to organize your life. If your lawn is looking shaggy and it's in your budget, pay someone to mow it. If there is an after-school program that can keep your children safe and entertained between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., sign them up. Before you pay to have time for work, make sure you calculate your worth versus their charges.
Multi-Task Your Home Business Opportunity and Home Life
Learn to multi-task your business with your chores. Tape your favorite daytime TV shows, while doing a load of laundry and sorting your mail. You can operate a household and job at the same time if you stay focused.
Get Your Family to Buy into Chore Time So You Have More Time for Your Home Business Opportunity
Collaborate with your spouse/domestic partner to get your household chores done. If you need to run to the bank, and your significant other is already making the trip, send your tasks with him or her.
Also, give them a heads up on what time you have available on any given day.
Lastly, just so they know you love them, do one thing daily around the house just for your significant other. Some examples are sweeping off the deck, setting the dinner table or raking the back yard. You don't have to tell them you did it, they will know. This will just be a little way of reminding them how important it is to you that they support your home business opportunity.
