Designing Your Ecommerce Web Site

There are several things to think about when you are designing your ecommerce web site. It should be free of errors, eye catching and easy on the eyes.

Check these tips to make sure your are doing all you can to make your site the best it can be.

Design Your Ecommerce Web Site to Grab and Attract

Probably the first thing you will work on is your home page. Spend the most time on this page. This is were you will grab your customer's attention and make them want your product.

Make sure your home page stands out. Use colors that complement your logo and build your site around a two or three color scheme that is easy on the eye and appealing, meaning no overly bright colors. All black is also bad.

Don't make the text too long, though. No one wants to spend more than a few seconds scanning your text. If it takes any longer than that you will lose your potential customer.

Also, all important words should be in bold.

All graphics on your site should have a purpose. They should either display that you are having a sale, some of your best products or some kind of information that the customer has to know. Most likely, you do not need any cutsy pictures that are just for decoration.

Keep your ecommerce web site as informative as possible, make sure you have plenty of information pertaining to your products and shipping policies.

Design an Easy to Use Ecommerce Web Site

Your site should be easy to use if you want the customer to stay around long enough to buy something.

First, make sure there are no broken links before you publish your site to the web. While you are looking for errors in links, also check the spelling on each page, the grammer and any information that pertains to pricing.

Next, design your site so that it is easy to navigate. Customers should be able to find any part of your site they need with ease and not get lost in the process. This calls for a good menu and a search box.

Your web site menu should always be at the top of every page. It's keywords should also be very easy to understand.

A search box will make it much easier for visitors to find what they're looking for on your site because it works like a mini search engine. All the customer has to do is type in what they are looking for and the search box will find it for them.

Include on your ecommerce web site a contact page with your e-mail, phone and fax information to make it easy for your customers to get in touch with you incase they have questions or comments.

The last step you should take to insure your site is ready for customers is to check if your pages are formatted so that search engines can find them easily.
