Schools warned to keep eye out for heightened terror threat
WASHINGTON The government is taking steps to avoid a school siege like the one that killed nearly 340 people in Russia last year. The Education Department is warning schools nationwide to keep a sharp eye out for people spying on their buildings -- which it says could be a possible sign of a terror threat. The warning comes after the F-B-I and Homeland Security Department analyzed the Russian siege. The government says the warning didn't follow any specific terror threat to schools or universities. But it does want school leaders to watch out for people who ask for school site plans and bus routes or watch security drills. Copyright 2004 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
