Have You Been Struggling with a Desire to be a Small Business Entrepreneur?
Many successful small business entrepreneurs will say that they "flirted" with the idea of being an entrepreneur for several years before taking the plunge into their own small business.
If you have a small business entrepreneur hiding inside of you that has been longing to come out, this might be just the time to set him free! Small business is booming in America. The Internet entering the American home has opened up a whole new world for Small Business Entrepreneurs and they are flocking to business ownership in record breaking numbers.
Making the decision to become a small business entrepreneur can be very liberating for someone who has stifled that side of them self for years. However, there are some preliminary things you should consider and plan for to make the leap to small business entrepreneurship a little less scary and risky.
Setting Yourself up to be a Small Business Entrepreneur
Because most businesses do not come with a guarantee of instant income, it is always best if before setting off on the journey to be a small business entrepreneur, you set aside enough money to cover a few months of living expenses. This will not only alleviate your fear of not being able to pay the bills for a little while during start up, but it will also enable your small business to keep the majority of its first couple of months revenue which is often necessary for further investment into the small business.
Before you taking the plunge into independence, make sure you are able to handle the mental, physical and financial demands of being a small business entrepreneur. If you are expecting life to be easier as a small business entrepreneur you will probably be gravely disappointed, many small business entrepreneurs report that for the first few years you can plan on working twice as much for half the pay as before.
Challenges for a Small Business Entrepreneur
Sometimes the very things that draw someone to become a small business entrepreneur turn out to be the same things that lead to their demise.
Many people are driven to be an entrepreneur because they do not like having a boss. That is fine as long you are self disciplined enough to get everything done that has to be done when there is no boss there to tell you do to it. Especially when running a small business from your home, entrepreneurs can have problems with too many distractions preventing them from getting their work accomplished.
And just because you don't have a boss doesn't mean that the job usually filled by the boss doesn't have to get done. It just means that now you are the boss and the employee and have to fill both pairs of shoes. This can be challenging for some small business entrepreneurs.
Externally, financing for a small business and finding the appropriate products or service to market can be the most challenging hurdles for an entrepreneur to over come.
