A Small Business Inside of You

Looking for a small business idea? Ask yourself one question. What are you good at? Really good at. So good that people will pay you for your skills and talent. Take some time to ponder that question. Everyone has something that they excel at, even if it's something that doesn't seem like it could be parlayed into a business. Think about what all your friends and family praise you for most. What do people always come to you for help with? Think about what it is you feel most confident doing. Now seriously think of a way that can be turned into a small business.

Small Business Ideas

If you are good at something, consider becoming great at it. This could help you immensely with your small business venture. For instance, if you're a better-than-average guitar player and would like to give lessons, practice (obviously), learn new styles, take a music theory course, join a band, anything that will improve your skills so you can confidently teach others. People expect to pay anywhere from $8 to $15 for a half hour of lesson time. That could be a decent money making small business if you're great at what you do.

Do you like to complain? There are some people who are great at finding flaws with situations. They're called consultants. Now keep in mind, consultants also offer solutions to the problems they see in companies. How many times have you said, "If I ran the show..."? Well now, in a way you can. People will not only listen to and implement your ideas; they'll pay you big bucks for the honor.

Do kids always seem to gravitate to you? Maybe you could turn that into a small day care business. Parents are always searching for reliable people to care for their little ones. However, depending on the size of your business you may be required to get licensed and there are restrictions and requirements enforced by the state. If paperwork is a turn off, maybe you should consider evening care. Parents often need evening child care so they can attend business dinners, PTA meetings, or simply enjoy a night out. Baby sitters today can make $10 an hour or more.

If you have amazing time management skills, there may be someone who needs your help. Personal assistants aren't just for celebrities. Busy professionals rely on PA's to do their errands, remind them of important events, and keep their lives running smoothly.

If you're always getting complimented on keeping an impeccably clean house, consider starting a cleaning service. It isn't the most glamorous job, but it's a necessary one. Individuals and companies will pay good money to have someone else do the sweeping and scrubbing.

If you like animals, consider being starting a small pet sitting business. People who have to travel out of town frequently may like the idea of a professional visiting their pets rather than having to board them or pester family or friends to do it every time they leave.

Typing, writing, research, and a myriad of other abilities are other sought after skills people are in need of. You may be surprised to find what people are willing to pay for and shocked by how much they're willing to pay.

Small Business Start Up

If you aren't exactly sure you can turn your talent into a lucrative small business, do a little research. You'll probably find that someone else, maybe not in your immediate vicinity, has already started a small business utilizing that talent. Don't be discouraged if you don't find anyone, though. It could be your idea is so unique, people don't realize they need it yet.
