Work from Home

Now is the perfect time to work from home. With the capabilities of computers and tele-commuting (working from a location outside of your employer's main office and passing along your work to them), never before has their been such opportunity to get out of the traditional office setting. If you are even considering working at home, you are most likely sick and tired of the fray associated with working in an office setting. It is probably a combination of bad coffee, artificial lighting, and plastic plants that have contributed to this distaste for the corporate work place.

You first need to consider what it is exactly that you want to do. Do you want to have your own business or work for somebody else. If you wish to work for yourself there are many opportunities to do so. You could conduct sales over the telephone and Internet, package and sell somebody else's products, or write for a publication. If you want to own your own business there are also million things that you can do.

You need to first figure out what products you want to sell or services you want to provide to the public. One other option that is sort of in the middle of working for yourself and for someone else while at home is to freelance. There are a few fields in which you can do this. Some examples are a writer, personal trainer, and tutor. You could either have someone to provide clients for you (then the provider gets cut of the money) or you could attract your own clients.

Setting up Your Work Home Office

You will need an area from your home to conduct business. Set aside an area where your family and friends will not interrupt you and that they do not need to use. This could be anywhere: in the garage, basement, or even a spare bedroom. Have a meeting with your family to discuss how your business day will typically operate and any limitations concerning their interaction with you during the work day.

Explain to your children that if an emergency arises, it is O.K. for them to interrupt you, but to think hard at first to see if it is actually an emergency. You may also want to have snacks ready for your children during your work day. Show them where the snacks that you made are, be it in the refrigerator or pantry. Good ideas are carrots or celery with peanut butter, fruit, or a turkey sandwich. You can also have milk and juice available for them.

When you are at home you can actually monitor their intake of junk food, so take advantage of this opportunity.

Your Work Home Office is Your Dominion

Now that you work at home, your office is your dominion. You can play music if it is not distracting or decorate it as you wish. Just make sure that if you have clients in your work home office for a meeting it is presentable. Still, have fun with it.
