A One Man Home Based Business
Home based business often means that you're either working alone or you have only your friends or family to look to for help in terms of running your business. But how long can you survive doing everything yourself? Yes, it's a home based business but I'll let you in on a secret - home based business owners often outsource!
Yes, because we're small and don't have a cleaning lady, tea lady, garbage collector, nanny, secretary, office boy and marketing manager at our disposal, we have to outsource some of the tasks that we think we can let others handle. We're a one-man-team but we should be a SMART one-man-team.
Achieving More from Your Home Based Business
Home based business owners need to outsource their work to others - as in do what you do best and hire the rest - because we want to achieve the maximum results from our home based business. After all, we'll soon suffer a burnout if we continue to do everything ourselves.
And we can normally get a pretty neat profit from just outsourcing some of the work that we get. For example, if a copywriter takes in a writing project for an ad, she can outsource the designing portion to another person. This way, she can concentrate on writing the copy well. In the meantime, she will still get a cut from the design work that she has outsourced to another person! Everyone wins this way.
Finding the Right Home Based Business Owner to Partner With
A certain web designer I know partners up with a web content writer for most of his work. He designs the website and suggests to his clients that he handles the copy writing work as well. He does the designing and his partner (who lives in another country) deals with the copy writing.
When you're looking for the right partner, if at all possible, don't assign the project to your best friend, cousins, husbands/wives, mothers/fathers...or any other close relatives. It's not that we're trying to be selfish, but if you want to give them the projects, you'd better be ready for some conflicts and practice throwing corn flakes at each other over the breakfast table!
The best thing for home based business owners is to look for their partners elsewhere - someone you have established a relationship with over some time - preferably.
Your New Home Based Business Partner
After finding the right partner for your current and future project, there's something you need to keep in mind - be clear and concise, understanding and comprehending, compassionate but firm about details regarding the project! The reputation of your home based business is at stake.
Even if you're a small home based business, you need to establish trust and a good working relationship with all your partners. Remember, there's nothing stronger and better than word-of-mouth. And if the word is that you're a bad paymaster or you can't be trusted, it could get difficult for you in the future.
If you're trying to partner with someone for the first time, remember to look past the pricing! You need to ensure that the person is capable of doing whatever he/she says he/she is capable of doing even though the price is not the lowest you can find. Check resume, portfolio, and previous work samples.
It is also advisable to put the partnership on test run for the first time. If both of you are comfortable working with each other, then both of you can refer businesses to each other.
