A Home Business - It's Never Too Late

Living Your Dream - Creating Your Home Business
It's never too late to live your dream of having your own home business. Let me give you an example of a couple of folks who've succeeded.
My home business started when I was 54. I'd always wanted to write. From the time I was a little girl in first grade I wrote short stories. But then I got caught up in survival - taking care of my child, bringing in a steady paycheck. I meandered quite by accident into a job with the local paper. From there grew a newspaper advertising career that spanned a couple of decades. I sold advertising and was very good at it.
But it also gave me the chance to be creative - to write and design ad copy, and, as I advanced to newspaper management, to write marketing materials and even a guest column or two. Finally I couldn't stand it anymore - I had to write.
I quit that newspaper career, got a second shift/weekend job at a call center and started my home business - writing - during the day. I started by giving it away. A local website needed writers. I volunteered to attend the local city council meetings and write about what I saw. I joined a local entrepreneurs group at the community college. It was there I met my first client - an employment counselor. I did a presentation to the group on successful newspaper advertising. He came to me later and asked me to write some marketing materials for him.
My Home Business Turned Lucrative
A year later this same client asked me to put together a booklet for him. His corporate clients were asking for help training and managing teleworkers. We soon discovered that the topic was expansive. We needed to address so many key issues. It turned into a book. Then our publisher suggested rather than my ghostwriting I should be co-author. He said my credentials were significant enough to help sell the book.
So now I'm a published author. Oh, we haven't made a tremendous amount of money on the book as yet. Books take a ton of promotion on the part of the authors, but the doors it has opened for me! My authorship has gotten me recognition and credentials that have led to many lucrative writing and editing assignments. My home business is not quite booming as yet, but it's steady. It pays the bills.
I've quit that call center. I write full time now. Finally, my own home business.
Necessity Creates a Home Business
I have a friend who does medical transcription from home. She just celebrated her 50th birthday. An accomplished degreed accountant with a lucrative job, she became ill last year and was no longer able to drive. She had balance issues and now tires easily. She had to find something she could do at home.
Then one of her friends, a medical transcriptionist, suggested she do that too. She was hired by the same firm, downloaded e-mailed software, bought herself a headset, trained online and is now working from home. In one short year she went from disabled and unemployed to having a solvent home business.
Why am I telling you this? To inspire you. To convince you that no matter what your age, no matter what your heart's desire or your medical or financial issues, there is something out there that you can do that will fulfill your dream. You can, if you use your imagination, create a successful home business.
