A Home Business Article Contributed by Rebecca Lanham
The Appeal of Home Based Business
There are many things about starting a home based business which are attractive to those in the traditional 9 to 5 workplace. Being your own boss is one of the most appealing draws. Setting your own hours is another. Using skills you already have to do a job you actually like is another. However, you can't forget typing or telecommuting in your pajamas or sweat pants! !
The fact that you can make an income in your home with a home based business has pulled over 40 million people out of the regular work force. You can find opportunities for your home based business that allow you to work full-time or part-time! Even large companies are hiring people to work from their home.
Being Your own Boss in Your Home Based Business
No more orders, no more evaluations, and no more trying to impress the higher ups. Not having any boss but yourself is a great draw for starting your own home based business. Although appealing, you also have to remember some important aspects of being your own boss:
a. You are the bookkeeper, secretary, and worker of your home based business! Jobs needing done cannot be delegated to someone else. No one other than you is going to keep track of the income of your business for filing taxes. And if the tools you use in your home based business, like your computer, break down, you have to either fix them yourself of hire someone to get it up and running again!
b. No one is going to check work for you and give suggestions for making it better. If the quality of your work is not excellent, people may look to others for the services they need. There is only you to make your home based business a success.
Although all of that sounds stressful, it can also be rewarding when you make your home based business work.
Setting Your own Hours in Your Home Based Business
No more 9 to 5 (or 8 to 5 in many current work places)! No more getting a limited time for your lunch. Being able to pick up your kids from school or be there when they get off the bus. All of these things are wonderful when you run your own home based business. Again, there are things you need to remember when setting your own hours:
a. Just because you work at home doesn't mean you'll have no deadlines. People hiring you are going to have expectations, even when they know you are running a home based business.
b. Having no set schedule when running your home based business can be a disaster for those who are not organized. Remember: your profits will equal the time you put into your business.
Doing What You Like in Your Home Based Business
Hate talking in front of a bunch of people. Don't like creating elaborate presentations. You don't have to when you create your own home based business. You may not succeed if you don't use skills you already have, though. Make sure you are doing something you like, but also using skills you are comfortable, confident and somewhat trained to use. Just use your common sense: if you don't know how to build a house, having a construction home based business is not for you!
Don't Give up When You Start a Home Based Business
Millions of people are out there working from home. You can be one of them. Just don't get discouraged if your business doesn't turn a profit in the first week. All good things take time, effort, and skill.
