Why Shouldn't I Work at Home in My own Business?
Whenever you scour the World Wide Web for information on home business, or opportunities that will let you work from home, you are inundated with positive, uplifting articles promoting all the reasons why you SHOULD work from home. They tell you that working from home is a way to gain freedom, a great income, and a time schedule that will fit your needs. Whilst this is certainly true for most people, there are a number of home business owners who end up on the other side of the spectrum.
They find themselves trapped, earning little or now money, and having to work all the hours that God sends. But why am I telling you this? To scare you off? Because I work from home and don't need (or want) the extra competition? No (but I do work from home). I say it so that you are prepared for the REALITY of working at home and/or running your own home business.

The first reason you shouldn't work at home, running your own business, is because it can seriously take over your life. You feel honor bound to prove to loved ones and friends that you are doing a proper job, so you work almost every hour of the day. You are up at the crack of dawn, and you don't leave your home based office until the small hours of the morning.
Neither do you have time for your family or friends. A social life is out of the questions. The nearest you get to going out to the pub for a night is a light lunch meeting with a client or customer where you can't drink because it wouldn't be seen as professional.

Another reason why you shouldn't work from home is that you face the definite possibility of not making very much money. Your initial profits will go to paying of your small business loan, you will continually invest in new things for your business, and you'll find that you have less and less money to spend on you.
You'll even find yourself tempted to put your own, personal cash in to your business (although this is a HUGE mistake).
Running your own home based business, or simply working from home can be more draining on your resources and finances than you think.
Summary
If you are seriously considering running a business from home, you MUST consider all aspects - even the negative ones. That way, you will be prepared for what might lie ahead. Some businesses fair amazingly well in their first years, and the owner has nothing to worry about. But wouldn't it be good to have the precautions in place...just in case. If you are going to be a successful home business owner you need to be realistic and sensible in your approach.
