Word-of-Mouth Advertising for Your Home Business: the Bank
The bank should be the best friend of your home business, especially if they have taken a chance to give you a small business loan. When you think of your local bank, try to picture just how many professionals and potential customers get to know the members of the bank, and understand that there is a way for your home business to have access to all those people for the purpose of advertising. You should begin by making it a policy to always visit your bank on as many occasions as possible.
Don't use the electronic deposit feature and don't do online banking. In addition, if payments trickle in throughout the week, don't save them up for one weekly visit, but instead use them as excuses to get into the bank on as close to a daily basis as possible. While you are at the bank, take every opportunity you can get to talk about your home business. Talk about successes, talk about new people you've met or new activities you've become involved in as a result of owning this home business.
Treat your bankers with respect and deference. In addition, refer as many people as possible to switch their banking to your bank, and then be sure to let the bank know how successful you've been doing that. Most importantly, while you are cultivating this client for word-of-mouth advertising, be sure you aren't secretly annoying them. Make sure you keep your visits short and sweet, and be sure to handle all the transactions according to the bank's policies.
Word-of-Mouth Advertising for Your Home Business: Restaurants
You are probably aware that everyone eats meals at a restaurant on a somewhat regular basis, and especially during lunch time. When you think of your local restaurants, try to picture just how many professionals and potential customers come through those doors on a regular basis, and get to know the waitresses and managers. Understand that it is possible for your home business to have access to all those contacts for the purpose of advertising.
You should begin by choosing at least two restaurants in your area, one that serves breakfast and the other that serves lunch. Choose restaurants that are fairly popular. Then, patronize those restaurants exclusively, going to breakfast at the same place very morning and going to lunch at the same place every afternoon. Leave generous tips, and talk a lot to your servers and cashiers.
Let them know your name and your home business name, and let them know that you refer all your friends to their establishment regularly.
Word-of-Mouth Advertising for Your Home Business: the Post Office
When you think of your local post office, think of how many people come to the post office on a regular basis to check their PO boxes and to mail things. You should patronize your local post office as regularly as you patronize your bank and your favorite restaurants, cutting up with the clerks and leaving your business card on the counters. Follow the same procedures at this establishment that you follow at the others, and your home business will undoubtedly secure more and more customers from word-of-mouth referrals alone.
