Why is it that business cards for the small business and the large fortune 500 corporation often look the same? They shouldn't. Those are two very different organizations with very different needs.

However, it does not make any sense to have a card belonging to a small business owner looking the same. Forget what designers say about few words looking good, you can still get a beautifully designed business card with lots of information packed into it.
A Business Card Should Work Hard for a Small Business
For the small home based business with limited resources, a business card should work very hard. Apart from identifying the owner of the card and giving contact information, it should also be a mini brochure or mini flyer that can be quickly distributed at an appropriate moment.
Don't get discouraged if you don't see any immediate quick results from your business card advertising, always remember that the important thing is that word is getting out there about your business and sooner or later there will be a positive impact on your business.
Be encouraged that in all likelihood the huge corporation you admire was once a small business just like yours and that if you use this tool effectively enough, one day soon you'll qualify to have just a fortune 500 business card design too.
