An Option for Many Moms Today is to Work at Home

New opportunities to work at home are being created everyday. The number of women staying at home after giving birth and not going back to the regular 9 to 5 employment they once knew is growing, as well. In today's society where costs are soaring and many women feel the need to contribute a salary to their family, seeing the a trend of "stay at home mom and work at home mom" seems to be a logical statistic to grow and keep growing.

Don't Fall for the "Work at Home" Schemes You See in Magazines or on the Internet

Yep, I did several of the work at home advertisements found in parenting magazines, too, before learning my lesson the hard way. When I became a stay at home mom, I devoured the classified in the back of parent centered publications. I sent in checks to "do easy mailings" from home and bought the right to use a website that promised mystery shopping success.

If you are looking for ideas like that when starting a work at home venture, remember to check the company out with the Better Business Bureau first. Many of them have horrible ratings from past "employees", so you'll gain tremendous insight simply by reading a few paragraphs. Not to mention saving some non-refundable cash that could be used for better things! )

Not All Work at Home Opportunities Mean You Have to be Your own Boss

Big companies are seeing the benefits of work at home employees, as well. Telecommuting is a newer phenomenon that allows people to work at home, usually with as little equipment as a computer and a phone. If you are dreading the bookkeeping that is inevitable when you start your own work at home business, looking into these kinds of positions may be a direction you want to go. You'll get a steady paycheck, but avoid the headaches of keeping track of taxes and keeping to a budget.

If You Go out on Your own, Create a Work at Home Business around Skills You Already Possess

By training, I am a teacher and children's librarian. At this time, I can't say I'm doing either job full-time. I do still work in the "real world" part time at my local library when my schedule allows, but that small salary doesn't put much of a dent in the expenses of raising children. So, even though I'm a full time stay at home mom, I've created a work at home business of writing! Children's literature, magazine articles, short stories...anything that appeals to me.

I have the training to use a computer, I can type several words a minute and I have research skills from my previous full time positions. It's a good match!

When you decide to work at home, you need to create your business around the skills you already possess if you want to make the transition less stressful and more profitable. There are many opportunities out there! Finding a positions (or creating a marketable product) which uses skills you already have and that you enjoy doing on a daily basis can enhance your life and give your self-esteem a big boost.

Do Not be Afraid to Work at Home

Determination is a big part of making work at home positions successful. Being a stay at home mom is challenging enough. If you can do the stay at home mom job successfully, remember you can do anything! Keep trying, believe in your abilities, and have fun with your kids.
