Statement by Richard Boucher, Spokesman December 5, 2000 Secretary Albright's Trip to Africa December 6-12, 2000 Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright will travel to Africa from December 6-12, 2000. She will be departing Washington, D.C. and will make Cape Town and Pretoria, South Africa her first stop. She will then travel to Port Louis, Mauritius and to Gaborone, Botswana. This trip will serve to underscore the unprecedented engagement of the Clinton Administration on the African continent and will demonstrate the commitment to democracy, economic progress and regional cooperation of these three countries. In her meetings with a wide array of government officials, non-governmental organizations and members of the civil society, the Secretary will focus on the real challenges facing the region including the battle against HIV/AIDS.
