Be Sure You are Buying a Business Opportunity and Not a Scam
Because so many people are seeking a Business Opportunity today and because many of these people are eager for something to start right away, scams have become a major concern. And are on a steady increase. There are a few things you can look out for and some questions you can ask while you are investigating a business opportunity to decrease your chances of becoming a victim.
A Legitimate Business Opportunity Will Still be There Next Week
One common approach you will see when people are marketing questionable business opportunities is the pressure to act now. Usually they will try to encourage you to act now with a discounted rate or an appealing incentive. If you are still cautious and hesitant to join they may get more direct or forceful by saying the business opportunity exists for you only if you join tonight. Tomorrow you will no longer have the opportunity to join their business. This should send up a huge red flag to you.
You need to investigate the company you are considering joining and you need time to think about the business opportunity and be sure it is a right fit for you. Think about this for a minute - would a McDonalds corporation only agree to sell you a franchise if you purchased by 10:00 tonight? Absolutely not! If the person selling the business opportunity insists you have to join now - you do not want to join - odds are good it is a scam.
You need to wait until you have checked on several things before you commit to anything.
So What Should You Check about This Business Opportunity?
The very first thing you want to check about a business opportunity you are considering is the reputation with the BBB (Better Business Bureau). You have to call the BBB in the city and state that the corporate office of the Business is located in. This check will tell you if they are a member of the BBB, how long they have been in operation and if there are any complaints about them and how the complaints were handled.
You should also make sure you are clear on all of the details of the business opportunity. What kind of work is expected of you. When can you expect to get paid and how? Are there any hidden fees associated with continued participation in the business opportunity? How long has the corporate company been in business? What kind of reputation do they have? Are there any references you can speak to?
Learn to Spot a Scam
Do not be tempted by get rich quick opportunities that promise you will make thousands of dollars a week for little or no effort. And be leary of any company that makes you join and pay money immediately. A legitimate business opportunity will let you go at your own pace and give you time you need to do homework.
