It needs to be somewhere you will not be interrupted or distracted by family or friends. They must view this area as your office, not a traditional part of your home.

Even though it takes many home based businesses a minimum of one year to turn a profit, you most likely will be much more fulfilled being your own boss, working out of your home with your own schedule, and doing what you love.
