Many home based business owners find out the hard way that many of the 'opportunities' they are offered are nothing more than a fraudulent way to take them for every last penny they have. Unfortunately, this doesn't stop scams happening time and time again to the home based business owner. Make sure that you don't become one of the statistics by becoming more informed.

Now don't misunderstand - a lot of these home based business opportunities are legitimate. But there are a lot of scams mixed up amongst that bunch too. Make sure that you thoroughly do your homework whenever you consider taking on one of these home based business ideas.

You should also watch out for pyramid schemes. These are also known as multi level marketing for those who are in the know. A lot of these pyramid schemes ask you to invest in their company, feeding you lines such as 'you'll be the next Bill Gates or Richard Branson'

Warning bells should start ringing if these phrases reach your ears, along with a slip for you to pay X amount of dollars to 'find out more'. Whilst not ALL of these companies are out to scam the home based business owner, a lot of them are.

Safe Guard Against Home Based Business Scams by Asking Questions

Don't be rushed by the sales pitch on the adverts that you come across. Many of these 'opportunities' say their offer is limited, that you must act now, or forever live with the knowledge that you let your one golden opportunity run down the drain. But don't let this pressure you. Running a home based business is a very serious venture, and it's worth taking the time to ask some important questions.

The questions you should be asking look something like this:

1) Check how long the company has been running. Have they got a proven track record? Do they have customer testimonials to support their claims?

2) Find out what type of work you will be expected to become involved in, how often you need to work, and what the monetary compensation is like.

3) Find out if the position is purely commission based. If it is, negotiate a percentage and get it down in writing.

4) Check the fine print to find out whether there is any financial layout required by you.
