U Bus and Reverse U Routes
The University Shuttles (“U”-
and “Reverse U” Bus Routes) are FARE-FREE bus services providing more
accessibility to and from all areas of campus.
The two routes of the Shuttles circle main campus in opposite directions
weekdays from 7 a.m. - 8 p.m..
The “U” and “Reverse U”
buses have stops that allow one to reach any point on main campus within a
two-minute walk. The maximum
waiting time for the buses are ten
minutes. Disability assignments could include parking in disability
spaces adjacent to “U” and “Reverse U” route bus stops. All Chapel Hill Transit buses “kneel” to accommodate
disabled boarders and have seats reserved for riders with disabilities.
Hospital Shuttles
For employees that work at the UNC Healthcare System, shuttles operate that run from the Family Practice Center, the Neuroscience Hospital, the Main Hospital, and the Ambulatory Care Center. Parking may be provided adjacent to these shuttle stops for transport to the main entrances of these buildings.

Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) EZ Rider Service
This is a special service, which uses lift-equipped vehicles to transport individuals with mobility limitations that prevent them from using Chapel Hill Transit's fixed route bus service. Service is available: - 6:15 am - 6:30 pm; Weekdays - 8:30 am - 7:00 pm Saturdays EZ Rider patrons may also use the EVENING and SUNDAY Shared Ride Service.
To use EZ Rider you must:
- Have your doctor complete a Certification Form. - Be able to meet the driver at your door. - Carry no more than TWO grocery size packages per trip.
To schedule an EZ Rider Trip, call 968-2772 and give the dispatcher:
- Your name; - Your pick up time and location; - Your destination; and - Your return trip schedule, if possible.
Trips may be scheduled up to 2 weeks in advance. EZ Rider patrons are charged the base adult cash fare of $.75 or may use bus passes or discount tickets. This fare provides for door to door service. Passengers requiring assistance may have someone accompanying them on the trip free of charge. EZ Rider patrons using the EVENING and SUNDAY Shared Ride services will be required to meet the pass requirement and a $.75 cash payment. The Town has adopted an EZ Rider Fee Waiver Policy for patrons who are economically disadvantaged. Anyone needing details on this policy may call 968-2755 for more information.
Triangle Transit Authority (TTA)
TTA is a regional bus service providing transit service between Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham. Currently, TTA operates four routes, as well as shuttle service within Research Triangle Park (RTP) and Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). These routes connect Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary with RTP and RDU. TTA has several stops on campus at UNC-CH. Shuttles that are a continuation of regular service are wheelchair accessible. If requests for a shuttle are by reservation please indicate if a wheelchair accessible vehicle is required. Contact TTA at 549-9999.
