About the Circuit Criminal Department
The primary responsibility of Circuit Criminal is keeping current all felony cases filed in Palm Beach County. There are eight court divisions with at least one clerk assigned to each division. The courtroom clerk records the events of the hearing in the court file. Additionally, all pleadings filed by the parties are recorded in a computer database and the pleadings are maintained within the file. Thus, the Circuit Criminal Department maintains information regarding a particular case in both the "hard" file, as well as part of a computer database. This information is available to the public upon request. It should be noted that there may be certain documents which cannot be released because of confidentiality issues.
Circuit Criminal maintains the records for all felony cases (including, but not limited to, homicide, robbery, burglary, sex offenses, forgery, child abuse and drugs) filed in Palm Beach County. If a case has been closed for over five years, it is possible that a copy of the case record is available on microfilm. Database records of a case may also be on microfiche.
If you require information regarding felony cases or individuals arrested for felony charges, you can visit the Circuit Criminal Division and use, free of charge, the public access computers located in the department. The clerks assigned to Circuit Criminal will instruct you in how to use the computers to access information. If you would rather receive the information over the telephone, you can call (561) 355-1666, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., for information on felony cases filed in Palm Beach County.
