Why Accounting is the Biggest Headache in Small Business Administration
Accounting and book keeping usually create the biggest headaches in small business administration.
Few home business entrepreneurs are accountants. Many do not even understand accounts or why accounting information on the business is so important in the running of any small home based business.
Why Accounting is So Important in Any Small Business Administration
Information is critical to the running of any business. The books of accounts will quickly show you a problem before it spirals into a crisis.
Your books of accounts should for example be able to tell you if you are undercharging for your goods and services. They should also be able to tell you how much money you are losing with every sale.
The same books are also important for working out taxes you owe.
Yet many home businesses are hardly able to afford a qualified accountant in their small business administration team.
Computers to the Rescue of the Small Business Administration
Nobody quite remembers how the human race and more specifically small home businesses managed before computers came along.
With the right software a small business administration is able to manage its' accounting department easily and efficiently.
Quickbooks is one of the most popular accounting softwares for small business. The reason is probably its' simplicity in that it can easily be used by a person with absolutely no knowledge or understanding of accounting. You just feed in the data by following simple instructions under the major business functions of money received, money paid out, money owed to you and money you owe to vendors. Once this information is fed into the computer, the software is able to generate any report you need.
Still, for the software to work for you, you need to feed in information and therefore the home business entrepreneur needs to work out a good method of collecting data and information and also make the time to have all the information fed into the computer and accounting software they have selected for their business.
The Small Business Administration Needs Only a Big Envelope to Run the Entire Accounts Department
Many home based entrepreneurs have kept it simple and practical by simply having one big envelope where they put in all their receipts and invoices and small expenses vouchers.
They then make the time, either a Saturday morning or Monday morning, or whatever time they have allocated to their small business administration chores. They sit in front of the computer and feed in all the information and data then.
This has to be a regular activity, at least once a week. The reason for this is that for effective small business administration, every entrepreneur needs the information in good time. In fact you will need to look at your accounting data all the time. You don't want to discover that you have been charging too little when you are shutting down the business. At that time the information will be virtually useless. You want this information as early as possible so that you can take corrective measures in good time before too much damage is done.
