- Comel Linerud took first place by recording a net score of 71 Saturday in a Keauhou Kona Mauka Golf Club tournament. Toby Turney placed second (72), and John McCulloch was third (73). Closest to the pin winners were Linerud (Hole 3), Tom Barrett (5), Sid Yanabu (8), Bridget Andrew (14) and McCulloch (17).

Intermediate sailing courses in Kawaihae
The YMCA Aquatic Center in Kawaihae offers a four-day intermediate sailing courses intended as a follow-up to its basic course. The class runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12.

Kohala's Coakley breaks record
Daniel Kailikoa Coakley, a sophomore at Kohala High School, broke a 20-year-old Hawaiian age group record Oct. 9 by swimming a 50-yard freestyle time of 21.59 at the Kona Aquatic Center. Scot Coleman set the previous record of 22.12 in 1984.
