Working at a Home Based Business - Alone but Not Lonely

Operating a home based business might allow you to spend more time with your family, have a more flexible schedule and earn more money, but there can be disadvantages too. One of these is that it can be a very lonely venture.

Many home based business owners spend all of their time confined within their house. They eat in their house, working in their house, and often interact with no one until the family comes home. At first, this can seem refreshing as you escape from the "rat race" of working outside of the home. But in time, this can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness and even depression.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to combat these feelings and keep your home based business going strong.

Things to do So Your Home Based Business Does Not Feel So Isolated

It is important to establish a work routine. All too often, unplanned days can lead to chaos and confusion which leads to extra long work days trying to keep up with it all. As your work day increases, your socialization decreases. Staying on a schedule will allow you to get the work done for your home based business and still have time during the day to socialize with others.

Take a walk with your friend, neighbor, spouse or dog. Often when you go by a workplace at lunch time you will see people out working. This is not only for the good exercise but for the socialization, fresh air and the general feeling of well being you will feel when the walk is over. Then you can go back to your home based business feeling fresh.

Some other things to consider is life is getting too lonely running a home based business - join a health club, take up a hobby, enroll in a class or have some type of structured activity which brings you into contact with people on a regular basis and helps to curb the feeling of isolation.

Consider buying a laptop computer. If you business is run primarily on the Internet this does not mean you have to be chained to your chair all of the time. Considering purchasing a laptop computer. This could give you the best of both worlds. Ensuring that you do not miss any business while at the same time freeing you up to go out in the world.

Take an afternoon, bring your computer with you and work for a couple hours in a coffee shop, spend a summer afternoon working in the park, or even go out and work on your front porch. All of these efforts to get out in the world will help to life your spirits.

Think about Supplementing Your Home Based Business with an out of Home Part Time Job

If the isolation and loneliness if really getting to you, and you miss the pleasure of having colleagues to have coffee with or go out to lunch with, consider taking a part time job in a social setting a couple of days of week. This may be the break that you need to appreciate the solitude of your home based business.
