Do you have really what it takes to be successful with a home based business? True Entrepreneurs have several personality traits that separate them from others in the world. They must be able to tolerate a higher risk level than their counterparts, have a strong sense of curiosity about their world, and be ambitious, among other things. But perhaps the most singular trait that will make a person successful with a home based business is their level of self discipline.

But Don't People Start a Home Based Business to Get Away from Discipline and Structure?

Perhaps! And perhaps that is why ninety five percent of them fail.

We have all heard the hype and the promises. Start your own home based business. Be your own boss. Work your own hours. Keep your own schedule. Easy Work. No Work involved! And on top of all of that.... Make thousands of dollars your first week! WOW! Who wouldn't want that?

So thousands of people flock to these home based business ideas and opportunities. They invest money and time and get their home based business set and and running. Now! They are ready for the Easy Work! and the No Work Involved! So....they sit back and wait for the Thousands of Dollars promised to them. Guess what ..... not only do they not make thousands of dollars their first week, but they don't make thousands of dollars ever.

Because they are not running a home based business, they are waiting for it to run itself. They were looking to escape discipline, structure and work, not build a home based business - which in reality can be much harder work than the job they were trying to escape.

Running a Home Based Business Takes a Lot of Self Discipline

Another common reason that people choose to start a home based business is because they are tired of having a boss telling them what to do and how to do it. Guess what? Every business must have a boss. When you choose to run a home based business, especially a sole proprietorship, you must now be the boss AND the employee! Talk about conflicting rolls to play!

If you (the employee) want a day off from work and you (the boss) grant that day off once in awhile, that is fine. But if you are the type of person that will request and grant too many of those days off, your home based business is in trouble! To be successful with your home based business you must be disciplined enough to make yourself go to work every day, and stay there!

Taking an afternoon off to take your child to the doctor's is one thing, but taking every afternoon off to watch soap operas is quite another! If you are not disciplined enough to resist the lure of the television in the other room, the call of the bed when the 3:00 slump hits, or the temptations of the refrigerator being five feet away, a home based business might not be your best answer.
