Five Easy Tips on Credit Card Applications
A Credit Article Contributed by Kris Griebe
Credit Card Application Tip 1:
When you are searching for a credit card company with whom you wish to submit an application, be sure to read the FAQ for each credit card before applying. Many credit card companies have additional fees and costs involving their cards. Also, this is where you will typically find the interest rate for the various types of purchases using their cards.
Credit Card Application Tip 2:
Do not apply for more than one credit card at a time. Submitting multiple applications can sometimes result in several acceptance offers. Often you can find yourself with several credit cards instead of just one, as you were seeking. Then you will have to go through the trouble of cancelling the card and paying any related fees. Or, if you choose to keep them, you will end up paying the membership costs for a card you may not use. Thus it is always wise to get an answer on each individual application before proceeding to apply for another.
Credit Card Application Tip 3:
Be sure to find the card that will best suit your needs. Are you looking for a secured or unsecured credit card? Do you want a card that allows you to make online purchases? What about buyer protection and return policies? Is it important that your card be structured for use at an ATM, or have a low cash advance fee?
These are all items to ponder before submitting an application to any credit card company. Some credit cards will allow you to do some things, such as purchase items online, but not others, such as get a cash advance. Ultimately, it comes down to your specific list of preferences.
Credit Card Application Tip 4:
Decide what major credit card logo you want on your card. There are many to choose from, such as: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Some are accepted globally, and others are not. Spend some time paying attention to signs in your local shops. What cards do they accept? Do you intend to travel overseas frequently? Perhaps it would be worthwhile to do research to find out what cards are commonly accepted wherever you will be traveling.
Credit Card Application Tip 5:
Keep an accurate record of each place you have previously submitted an application. Every time you apply for a credit card, they will check your credit report. Sometimes this can reduce your credit score. If you keep accurate records of each company you have applied with, you will be able to reference it against your credit report to make sure there are no items on your report that do not belong there. This also ensures that you can keep track of which companies have declined, and which accepted, your applications.
Keeping these things in mind will make your experience in gaining a credit card much more rewarding, and ensure you find the card best suited to your needs.
