If you are a stay at home parent, and you would like to put good use to the time you have at home to earn some extra cash for the family, you can always consider a home based business. However, it is important that you will be able to balance your time with your family, especially if you have young children, and your work.

It is quite easy to set up your own home based business. Think about your skills and what interest you the most. Once you have an idea of what you are able to offer, whether it is your skills or products that you can sell, you can start working out your plan for your home based business.

How Do You Start Planning for Your Home Based Business?

Start by creating an action plan. Note down facts and points like who are your targeted customers, what are your goals (selling to 3 customers a day, perhaps? ), finding out the competitiveness of the business you are starting, the amount required for you to start your business and the estimated time needed before you can expect to see profit in your business.

Your plan should have separate titles, so that you can work out the details segment by segment. You could separate your plan with titles such as customer base / networking, targeted sales, competitors, promotion and financial.

Since you will be conducting the business from your home, you will need to decide the location in your home which will be turned into an office. You should also consider if you will be entertaining your customers or suppliers in your home office. It is a good idea if you are able to isolate your home office from the main area in your home. This way, you should be able to concentrate more while you work in your home office.

You should also be considering if you want to employ workers for your home based business. Ask around and see if you would need a license or to purchase an insurance for your business.

If you have young children at home, it is always best to start working on your business after they are asleep or if they are being watched by someone else. It is never too professional to answer the telephone and to have a conversation with your customers while your babies are crying or screaming for your attention.

When deciding the type of home based business that you would like to start, consider the amount of time you would like to spend on your chosen business, as different businesses require different amount of time and energy. It would be quite devastating if you were to start a business where you don't have much time to monitor!
