Imam Rahmat Phyakul at the Daroon Mosque

Southern Thailand, August 2004: Target-of-opportunity speaker Imam Rahmat Phyakul (pictured in back row, center), who established the first Thai mosque in the U.S., took advantage of a visit to a conservatively structured mosque by discussing Muslim life in America with women congregants. One hundred copies of Muslim Life in America, translated into the Thai and Yawi languages, were distributed at this event, along with Harvard University’s CD on religious pluralism, to stimulate community discussions after the event.
