ORDER NO. 10-04-03 FIRE USE RESTRICTIONS
SIX RIVERS NATIONAL FOREST
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and because of high fire danger, the following acts are prohibited within the Six Rivers National Forest. This order is effective from July 23, 2004, through November 1, 2004.
- Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, except within the developed recreation sites listed on Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B, within the designated fire safe sites listed on Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B, within the Trinity Alps Wilderness, or within the Siskiyou Wilderness. 36 CFR 261.52(a).
- Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, within the developed recreation sites listed on Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B, or within the designated fire safe sites listed on Exhibit A and shown on Exhibit B. 36 CFR 261.52(d).
- Operating an internal combustion engine, except on National Forest System roads and trails. 36 CFR 261.52(h).
- Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with an open flame. 36 CFR 261.52(i).
- Using an explosive. 36 CFR 261.52(b).
Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this order:
- Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission. Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit are not exempt from the prohibitions listed in this order. However, persons with a valid California Campfire Permit may use portable stoves or lanterns using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel. In addition, persons with a valid fuelwood-cutting permit from the Six Rivers National Forest may operate a chainsaw, provided that the person complies with the terms of the permit.
- Any Federal, State or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559 , 3571, and 3581.
