The photographic archive contains approximately 500,000 negatives,
the oldest on glass plates, and the same number of prints.
The historical collection includes:
• calotypes (negatives on paper) by Brampton Philpot
• glass negatives by Vincenzo Giani, Ludovico Pachò, Ugo Ojetti, Giuseppe and Vittorio Jacquier
• plates of the Fototeca Italiana in the Fondo Cipriani
• documentation of war damage dating from 1945-46, made in collaboration with the Allied Command of the Fifth Army
• documentation of the Florence Flood of 1966, including the rescue of the Photographic Archive itself.

The department sells black and white and coloured prints of the material in its archives
relating to the works of art in the museums of the Polo Museale Fiorentino.
