Defense Trade Controls - Corresponding With Us
DDTC anticipates that enhanced electronic industry-to-government
interaction will facilitate the handling of documentation and data that we receive and process.
As these opportunities arise, we will be flagging them for your attention. In the meantime,
industry may wish to consider the tips below that can be applied in hardcopy documentation
and help ensure your case/issue is properly routed and receives appropriate priority:
- In making submissions for purposes other than those that are instantly recognizable (e.g., export licensing
requests via DSP forms or Agreement submissions), make clear at the outset the nature of the query/request
(e.g., Request for CJ Determination; Registration Question; Meeting with Licensing Office Sought; Brokering
Activity Report; Annual Sales Report; Seeking DDTC Participation in Outreach Conference/Seminar; Voluntary
Disclosure).
- For "General Correspondence" (or "GCs"), differentiate as to purpose (e.g., Advisory Opinion; General Inquiry;
Request to Modify/Delete Provisos; Prior Notification to Market SME; Request for Retransfer/Re-Export Approval).
- Wherever applicable, but especially in submitting retransfer/re-export requests, state early on in clear, simple
terms the following: commodity, country from which the commodity is to be transferred, country and specific party
which are to receive the commodity, authority under which commodity was originally sold/transferred.
