Photo.Benvenuti in Italia.

One student on his way to Italy asked, "How can I go to Italy? I don't even speak Italian." At the end of the summer, he came back with the answer: "In Italy, all you have to do is smile." Though he couldn't speak much Italian, and his host mother couldn't speak English, they became very close by sharing the incredible meals they prepared together. He practiced and learned Italian by cooking with her.

Orientation in Rome

Spend three thrilling days exploring Rome. Hike from the Forum to the Vatican, where you are captivated by the vivid scenes and colors in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. Stand in the Colosseum, imagining its dramatic history. Taste your first gelato at one of the cafés in Piazza Navona. Throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain to ensure your return to Italy. Observe local culture while sitting on the Spanish Steps. By the time you leave Rome, you will be able to find your way around anyplace!

Photo.Travel and Discovery

Your Italian adventure concludes with a whirlwind travel experience. Journey by bus, train, or boat to stunning towns and bustling cities enjoying a final delicious taste of Italy. A few days in scenic and historic Venice provide the backdrop for an incredible end to your Experiment.

Sample activities: Travel along the gorgeous Amalfi Coast to Sorrento; immerse yourself in the arts and cooking of Northern Italy; enjoy the famous Ghost Walk in Genova; explore the streets of Romeo and Juliet's Verona; ride the water taxis through the canals of Venice.

One day our whole group was invited to a Piemontese cooking lesson with one of the host families. Here all of us took part in preparing dinner, from making actual spaghetti from scratch to baking the delicious bacchi di dama, a sort of cookie for dessert. When we finished, Americans and Italians sat down to eat together, like one big family and after dinner was done, everyone helped clean up. It was an incredible feeling of acceptance and community.
