Benvenuti
in Italia.
One student on his way to Italy asked, "How can
I go to Italy? I don't even speak Italian." At the end of the summer,
he came back with the answer: "In Italy, all you have to do is smile."
Though he couldn't speak much Italian, and his host mother couldn't speak
English, they became very close by sharing the incredible meals they prepared
together. He practiced and learned Italian by cooking with her.
Orientation in Rome

| One day our whole group was invited to a Piemontese
cooking lesson with one of the host families. Here all of us took
part in preparing dinner, from making actual spaghetti from scratch
to baking the delicious bacchi di dama, a sort of cookie for dessert.
When we finished, Americans and Italians sat down to eat together,
like one big family and after dinner was done, everyone helped clean
up. It was an incredible feeling of acceptance and community.
