The Solomon Islands are located on the so called rim of fire in the tropical South Pacific. The Solomon population is predominantly Melanesian with some Polynesian and Micronesian influence. By south pacific standards the country is underdeveloped and tourism is still in its infancy. The Solomons consist of 997 islands and attract only 4500 tourists annually. Hence all Solomon tourism is small scale and the attitude of the native Solomon islanders is one of friendliness and curiosity. Visiting the Solomon Islands is like going back in time as most of the people still make a living by diving and catching fish from their dugout canoes and growing their fruit and vegetables in the tropical rainforests which abound on the islands. Most dwellings are made from rainforest materials.
The majority of tourists are scuba divers and game fishermen. The diving in the Solomons is considered the best in the pacific and every dive is different. Apart from the reefs and walls there is an abundance of WWII wrecks to dive on. Scuba divers regularly see turtles manta rays eagle rays reef sharks and much more. Dolphins and Manatee can be encountered whilst scuba diving also. Dive Solomon Charters offers scuba diving and sports fishing holidays in the Solomon Islands
Snorkelling in the lagoons near white sandy beach uninhabited islands such as renown Kennedy Island is a favourite pastime with visitors also. Kennedy Island was made famous through the exploits of the late JFK whose patrol boat the PT 109 was recently found by Ballard near Kennedy Island
Fishermen in the Solomons catch marlin, sailfish, wahoo, dorado, mahi-mahi, dogtooth tuna, yellowfin tuna, spanish mackerel, giant trevally, bass and much more. Solomon Charters offers scuba diving and sports fishing holidays in the Solomon Islands
Daytrips are available to WWII wreck sites and places of cultural interest such as skull sites or volcanic areas where the Megapode birds lay their eggs in the hot soil.
