Even with the 2004 Major League Baseball season all said and done, former Pelicans continue to make headlines. On Thursday, current Atlanta Braves first baseman and former Pelican, Adam LaRoche, was named to the 2004 “Topps” All-Rookie Team.
LaRoche put up solid numbers for the Braves in his first year with the team hitting .278 with 13 HR’s and 45 RBI. The former “Bird” split time at first base with the ageless wonder, Julio Franco. Even though he had to share time in the starting line-up Adam logged 110 games in his rookie season, which saw the Braves advance to the playoffs and win their 13th consecutive division title. In his first taste of postseason play LaRoche hit .235, but came up with some clutch hits in the NLDS series against the Houston Astros, including a gargantuan game-tying, three-run HR in Game 4, to help force Game 5.
