BIOGRAPHY Christina B. Rocca Assistant Secretary, Bureau of South Asian Affairs Term of Appointment: 05/31/2001 to present

Christina B. Rocca was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs on May 31, 2001. Prior to joining the Department of State, she was Foreign Affairs Advisor to Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS). During that time frame she specialized on issues relating to South Asia, as well as Central Asia, the Caucasus, and the Middle East. She is the author of several pieces of legislation including three separate amendments providing presidential waiver for the various sanctions imposed on India and Pakistan; the Silk Road Strategy Act, which provides a policy and assistance framework for Central Asia, and the South Caucasus; PNTR for Kyrgyzstan; PNTR for Georgia.

From 1982 to 1997 Mrs. Rocca was an intelligence officer with the Central Intelligence Agency. A native of Washington, DC Mrs. Rocca earned a B.A. degree in History from King’s College, London, England in 1980. Her languages are French, Russian, Spanish, and German.
