Peace Process in Sri Lanka
Deputy Secretary Armitage spoke with Sri Lankan President Kumaratunga and opposition leader Wickremesinghe to express the U.S. continued support for the peace process and to urge all parties to work together to return to negotiations.

Travel to Sri Lanka
Ambassador Black (Sept. 8):
" First of all it is a pleasure to be here; this is my first trip to Sri Lanka. This is my last stop on the way home. Previously on this trip I have been to India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. With India and Pakistan we have a joint working group where we meet every six months to review issues of common concern on counter-terrorism and to look at ways that we can mutually support each other, both politically and practically, to enable the practitioners of counter-terrorism to do their job more efficiently"  [full text]
