Trask River Fishing

The Trask River begins at the foot of the Oregon Coast Range and winds its way through the Tillamook State Forest before entering Tillamook Bay in Tillamook, Oregon. The Trask River receives runs 3 different species of pacific salmon as well as a winter run of steelhead. Cutthroat Trout are also present throughout its watershed.

The Trask is known for its particularly plentiful run of large fall chinook salmon which begin returning to the Trask River in September, running through December. Salmon up to 70 pounds have been taken from the Trask but salmon in the 20 to 40 pound range are more common. Fishing for these magnificent salmon usually takes place from a drift boat when fall and winter rains allow for an easy and scenic drift down the river.

Coho salmon are also present in the fall while spring chinook salmon begin returning in April and last through June. The large wild run of steelhead are peaking in the months of January through April and offer great sport fishing for any angler from shore or by boat. Most of the steelhead encountered on the Trask River are of wild origin and must be released unharmed.

Other area rivers: Wilson River, Kilchis River, Tillamook River and Tillamook Bay.
