TACKLING THE WORLD . . . AGAIN

It’s great to see our dealers around the world picking up Hardy gear, getting out there and doing the business!

Take Jonathan Boulton, proprietor of one of South Africa’s brightest tackle dens. He is the boss of Mavunghana – kingfisher to us English types – in Dullstroom. It’s a beautiful shop situated in a fascinating old stone house with an absolutely great feel to the whole enterprise. And Jonathan certainly knows what he’s talking about. For years he worked as a fishery scientist and part of his job in South Africa, apart from selling the very best gear to his customers, is sorting out all manner of aquatic problems.

Jonathan loves the Gem series and in January took a ten-foot, six-weight out to this massively-weeded stillwater close to the tackle shop. The result? A grass carp estimated at between thirty and thirty-five pounds taken on his wand of a rod and a floating line. Mind you, tough as the Gem is, he still had to go swimming when the monster got thoroughly weeded up. Nonetheless, we think it’s testimony to both the versatility of the rod and the ingenuity of the fisherman. Well done, Jonathan.
