Ensenada, Mexico Mission Trips
Youth Group
Our goal is to build up local churches and ministries, working alongside our Mexican brothers and sisters in Christ so that Ensenada will be changed for Christ. Your team will work in local neighborhoods to help families who survive on very little.
Your day will be divided between construction, evangelism, prayer, and children’s ministry.

Location Information
|
|
Location Description:
Ensenada is located 70 miles south of the border, a 90-minute drive from San Diego. A protected harbor and modern port facilities make it Baja California's leading seaport. The scenic setting, beautiful beaches, shopping, cantinas and restaurants, and fishing make Ensenada one of the leading resort and commercial centers on the Baja peninsula. (www.enjoyensenada.com, www.business-words.com/IRC/ensenada.html)
Weather:
Ensenada’s coastal climate is similar to San Diego’s with sunny summers cooled by ocean breezes. The mild climate ranges in temperature from 60-90 in the summer.
Area Attractions:
Ensenda's heritage is reflected in its historical buildings and missions. Lovers of the outdoors will find many nearby campsites for mountain climbing, beachcombing, and hiking. The pristine pine forests of the Constitution of 1857 National Park and the rock gardens Cataviña are other natural attractions.
Just a few miles south of town is La Bufadora, the remarkable sea geyser that spouts a stream of saltwater more than 60 feet up into the air. (www.enjoyensenada.com, www.mexonline.com/ensenada.htm)

People, Culture and Religion
|
|
The people of Ensenada are trying hard to improve their city both for tourists, who are a big part of their economy, and for their families. The improvements are viewed as positive, though some result in the loss of authentic Mexican culture.
In Mexico, 89% of the population is nominally Roman Catholic, with 6% Protestant and 5% other religions. (www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/namerica/mxcia.htm) (www.sailorschoice.com/ensenadaharbor)

Government and Economy
|
|
Ensenada has been a favorite tourist destination for many years, and Mexico's second most-visited port-of-call for major cruise lines and pleasure boats. Money generated from fishing ports and industrial development is also a large part of the economy. (www.mexonline.com/ensenada.htm, 8/2/02)
Mexico came under Spanish rule for three centuries before achieving independence early in the 19th century. Today, the United Mexican States is a republic comprised of 31 states and one federal district. An elected president is the head of state, working with a legislature and Supreme Court.
Mexico has a free market economy increasingly dominated by the private sector. A devaluation of the peso in late 1994 threw Mexico into economic turmoil, triggering the worst recession in over half a century. A strong export sector helped to cushion the economy's decline and led to recovery from 1996-2000.
Ongoing economic and social concerns include low wages and underemployment for a large segment of the population. (www.lansingsc.org/sc-info.cfm?citycode=4, www.worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/namerica/mxcia.htm, 8/1/02)
